Care Instructions

Pure Mulberry Silk is naturally breathable, lightweight and comfortable across the seasons. Its fine fibres benefit from gentle handling to maintain their softness and natural lustre.

To maintain its softness and drape, silk is best cared for with gentle hand washing where recommended. Always refer to the care label attached to your garment.

Silk Duvet Winter Weight 400gsm

Stay comfortable in every season

Our knitted silk comes in two constructions, single knit and double knit. While both are lightweight, breathable and temperature regulating, the knit changes how the fabric moves and which garments it's best suited to.

Single knit silk is the lighter of the two. Made with a single set of needles, it's incredibly fine, a little sheer, and fits closely to the body moving with you, almost unnoticed. At 75gsm, it's a natural base layer, sitting easily under clothing.

Double knit, also known as interlock silk, is made with two sets of needles that create two interlocking layers. It's slightly thicker than single knit, won't ladder, and while it has some stretch, the fabric is more structured, so it holds its shape. It comes in two weights: a lighter 95gsm for underwear and sleepwear, and a heavier 170gsm, which is better suited to outerwear.

How do I care for natural fibre homeware?

Wool, possum merino, silk, sheepskin, cotton and hemp all behave a little differently, so the care label on your piece is always the final word. A few principles hold across all of them.

Natural fibres need washing far less often than most people expect. Airing outdoors on a dry, breezy day in the shade will freshen most things and let the fibre recover.

When a wash is needed, use cool water and a gentle detergent, skip the fabric softener, and dry flat away from direct sunlight rather than tumble drying. Spot clean marks as they happen and you will wash far less.

Store clean and folded, in a breathable cotton bag rather than plastic. Moths are drawn to soiled wool rather than clean wool.

If you're unsure about a particular piece, the composition is listed on the product page, or email sales@nznature.co.nz and we'll check for you.

Does this make a good gift?

It's a large part of why people buy natural fibre homeware. There's no sizing to get wrong, and a throw, duvet or set of tea towels suits a household rather than one person's taste, which takes most of the guesswork out of it.

Natural fibre pieces also tend to be used rather than put away. Wool and possum merino in particular improve with use and last for years, which counts for more than novelty at a wedding, a housewarming or a new baby.

Where a piece is made here it carries an NZ Made tag, which is worth knowing if you're sending something overseas.

We don't gift wrap at the moment, but we're happy to include a message from you. Add it in the notes when you order, along with who it's from. If a gift turns out not to be right, the recipient can note that on the returns form and we'll handle the exchange discreetly.

Can I return a homeware item?

Yes, within six months of the order date, provided the item is unused and in its original, undamaged packaging. Fill in the returns form enclosed with your order and send it back with the item, packaged securely for the return journey. Return postage is at your own cost, but we don't charge you postage to send a replacement out. If you can't find your form or you're not sure whether something qualifies, email sales@nznature.co.nz with your order number.

What if my order arrives damaged?

It happens rarely, but ceramics and glass can occasionally come to grief in transit. Let us know as soon as you can, emailing returns@nznature.co.nz with your order number and a photo, and we'll replace the item or refund you.

Can homeware be sent overseas?

Yes. A small number of items are restricted for international freight, and if anything in your order is affected we'll contact you before we send it.

Is your homeware made in New Zealand?

Some of it is, and the product page will tell you. Anything made here carries an NZ Made tag. Much of the range is designed in New Zealand and made offshore, and we'd rather be straight about the difference than blur the two.

Do you take corporate or bulk orders?

Yes. Tea towels, coasters, magnets and similar items work well for corporate gifting and event orders. Email sales@nznature.co.nz with what you have in mind and we'll come back to you with pricing and lead times.
