About Hemp

As one of nature's strongest fibres, hemp is built to last. Cool, breathable and comfortable, it's at its best in warmer weather and transition seasons. And as it softens with every wash, it's a fibre that continues to reward with wear.

Created with longevity in mind

Hemp is one of the world's most durable natural fibres. Plicity combines hemp with complementary natural fibres to create fabrics designed to soften with wear while maintaining their integrity over time.

Hemp is naturally durable, breathable and made to last. It softens with wear and washing, developing character over time.

A gentle machine wash helps maintain the strength of the fibre while allowing it to soften naturally. Always refer to the care label attached to your garment.

Rewards With Wear

The character of hemp comes from its fibres. Naturally long and strong, they create a fabric known for its durability and longevity.

That strength is often noticeable when a garment is new. Hemp can feel more structured than cotton at first, but with time, washing and wear, the fibres soften and relax. Rather than wearing out, the fabric gradually wears in, becoming more comfortable while maintaining the resilience that hemp is known for.

Hemp's breathable fibre structure also allows air to circulate freely through the fabric, helping it feel cool and comfortable against the skin. This natural breathability makes hemp particularly well suited to warmer weather and the seasons in between.

It's a rare combination: strength that softens, durability that remains, and comfort that improves with age.

Wool, possum merino, silk, sheepskin, cotton and hemp all behave a little differently, so the care label on your piece is always the final word. A few principles hold across all of them.

Natural fibres need washing far less often than most people expect. Airing outdoors on a dry, breezy day in the shade will freshen most things and let the fibre recover.

When a wash is needed, use cool water and a gentle detergent, skip the fabric softener, and dry flat away from direct sunlight rather than tumble drying. Spot clean marks as they happen and you will wash far less.

Store clean and folded, in a breathable cotton bag rather than plastic. Moths are drawn to soiled wool rather than clean wool.

If you're unsure about a particular piece, the composition is listed on the product page, or email sales@nznature.co.nz and we'll check for you.

It's a large part of why people buy natural fibre homeware. There's no sizing to get wrong, and a throw, duvet or set of tea towels suits a household rather than one person's taste, which takes most of the guesswork out of it.

Natural fibre pieces also tend to be used rather than put away. Wool and possum merino in particular improve with use and last for years, which counts for more than novelty at a wedding, a housewarming or a new baby.

Where a piece is made here it carries an NZ Made tag, which is worth knowing if you're sending something overseas.
