Morepork or Ruru
More often heard than seen, the Ruru is New Zealand’s only surviving native owl. Their super sensitive hearing and night vision, combined with near silent flight and 270 degree rotating head make them highly proficient nocturnal predators, feasting mostly on large invertebrates.

Kiwi
Flightless, nocturnal and iconic, the kiwi is New Zealand's most famous bird. There are five species - the North Island brown being the most common. A strong sense of smell, whiskers, and fur-like feathers make the kiwi the badger of birds! The perfect gift to send a little kiwi living overseas!

Fantail
The fantail's, or pīwakawaka's, short wings and beautiful tail fan have evolved for fast, agile flight. They are experts at catching tiny flying insects in the air and will do so without fear of people - making them a favourite of many tramping and gardening New Zealanders.
